The dead girls of Hysteria Hall by Katie Alender
Blurb:
In this asylum, your mind plays tricks on you all the time……
Delia’s new house isn’t just a house. Long ago, it was the Piven Institute for the care and correction of troubled females - an insane asylum nicknamed “Hysteria Hall.” However, many of the inmates were not insane, just defiant and strong willed. Kind of like Delia herself.
But the house still wants to keep “troubled” girls locked away. So, in the most horrifying way, Delia gets trapped. And that’s when she learns the house is also haunted. Ghost girls wander the hallways in their old-fashioned nightgowns. A handsome ghost boy named Theo roams the grounds. Delia learns that all the spirits are unsettled and are full of dark secrets. The house harbors shocking truths within its walls, truths that only Delia can uncover, which may set her free. She’ll need to act quickly, before the house’s power overtakes everything she loves.
This book is an original ghost story which is full of twists and turns. Delia is a very strong character that loves her family and wants to keep them safe after she departs from the world of the living. As she journeys in the house, departed from her body she uncovers more and more secrets that her great aunt Cordelia Piven left behind for Delia to to find. Great Aunt Cordelia was living by herself and kept herself safe in on spot in all of the house during the day and in one spot at night by using salt in which Ghosts cannot cross. Cordelia committed suicide so she wouldn’t be trapped in the house wandering around as a ghost. Delia makes new ghostly friends over the duration she is trapped in the house. Delia’s living parents split up and her younger sister Janie comes back to the house to find out how Delia really died. An evil force is out to kill any troubled girls and Janie and her mother are counted as troubled to this mysterious force. Delia manages to stop this force and all the ghosts are free from the house forever. Delia’s family is safe and she can finally move on knowing that the force will not harm anyone anymore.
This book is a really great piece to add to any library and/or personal book collection if you like ghostly horror. It is more of a teen/young adult book and it is not recommended if you get scared by any ghost stories and/or movies. If you still want to read it go ahead but be warned…… it might give you goosebumps and/or phobia of ghosts, haunted houses and/or death.
